So I ask you, why do you seek to live a holy life even though you are under grace?
You were created for it. You were created to live a holy life. You function best when you do. As we heard this week, we were created for holy living just like our bodies were created for good food.
I started thinking about this in the context of the people that Wycliffe aims to reach. By bringing God’s Word to those who don’t yet have it, it is like we are bringing loads of good, healthful food to a malnourished people. It’s the same as feeding the hungry....only this time the supply never runs out. As people eat good food, their bodies begin to function better (the way they were created to), sickness is no longer a threat to wipe out an entire community, joy comes back to the face, hope is alive and well.
While many of the language groups that Wycliffe translates the Bible for have access to Scripture in a language other than their own, the food that they receive from this may not give them all of the “nutrients” that are available due linguistic differences or cultural nuances. When the Bible can be read in a person’s HEART language, the deep and spiritual truths can be “digested” and transforming.
It’s not that we, ourselves, are bringing God into a dark place in the middle of the jungle (or bush, or highlands, or city), because God is already there. God is everywhere, even if He is not recognized. Wycliffe simply seeks to bring His written revelation to people so that ALL people can have access to this book that teaches us why we were created.
God created us, ALL of us, to live and breath and walk with Him. As the Word of God permeates a culture, these people get to know this God who created them for holy living.
