Our Story

It all began in a small town in the great state of Ohio. Trevor and Sarah met at Cedarville University—located in Cedarville, OH—as they both were pursuing their bachelor’s degrees in music. Trevor bounced off the walls…Sarah liked to blend in with them. By God’s comical orchestration, it turns out that they both ended up traveling on the same music team for the university in the year of 2003. And more than that, they were the two keyboard players…how cute. To make a long and complicated story short, concise, and to the point…they began dating, fell in love, broke up three times, and then FINALLY got married. It was joyous!

Both being in the music world, conversation came easily and likes and dislikes were all too much alike. In the midst of all the music talk, reaching the nations for the Lord was a huge part of what brought them together. They knew that, should they get married, they wanted to eventually end up overseas, serving the Lord cross-culturally. With Sarah having been born in Brazil, they dreamed of someday going back there to live and serve, raising little Portuguese-speaking, Brazilian children.

After getting married, Trevor began as Pastor of Music and Creative Arts at Hope Community Church in Hudson, OH. Our very young and unexperienced little family found ourselves being loved and taken in by this wonderful congregation of people where we were able to live, serve, and work with people who have since become dear friends, and practically family, to us. We made our mistakes, tried to grow up, and found ourselves amazed by the wonderful grace of our God, Who allowed us to be called His servants.

About one and a half years into our time at Hope we felt that the Lord was saying in His still, small voice, “Don’t get too comfortable here. I’m preparing for you to move in a different direction.” Funny thing is, we BOTH felt this overwhelming sense that God was about to bring about something crazy. God is indeed thorough! So we prayed. And we prayed. And then we waited and then prayed some more.

After a particular night of prayer and conversation, we felt that we had our answer from the Lord. It was so clear that it took us a while to realize that it truly was from the Lord, not of ourselves. The answer was: Bible translation. In what way we didn’t know. How we didn’t know. Exactly when we didn’t know. But we knew the direction. And so, we began working towards this. We spoke with the missions organization that our church was a part of (Christian and Missionary Alliance) and found out that they didn’t really work a whole lot with the Bible translation side of things specifically. They referred us on to Wycliffe Bible Translators, who interestingly enough, we had actually had contact with in college and were quite familiar with. We began our membership process with Wycliffe in October of 2007 and by March of 2008, we were officially members.

So now here we are, still seeking the Lord for each next step. While He hasn’t laid out the rest of our future to us, He has faithfully shown us what step to take next…sometimes later than we would have hoped! We want to trust Him to finish the work He started in us. If He has called us to spread His Good News through serving as missionaries in the field of Bible translation, then we know that HE will fulfill all of our needs. We have been blessed to find Him in the struggle and in the victory. Our God is faithful. May our family never cease to testify of this.
