I couldn't think of what to blog about today...but when I looked at the title of our blog, I thought "hmmmm...that's interesting." For quite some time, it's been quite appropriate as a title for our family. The Traveling Schuhs. That's what we do. We travel. We'll live with you if you let us...all we need is a basement and a pack'n'play and we're content.
But now we're pretty settled. Life is beginning to be "normal" again.
Work with me here.
When I was growing up, Missions Conference was a big deal. I looked forward to it every year. I still remember just about every missionary that we had visiting our church (which is pretty amazing if you know my lack of basic childhood memories...my sisters remember more of my childhood than I do). I had this high after every conference or short-term missions trip. I loved that feeling. The feeling that I could somehow be a part of what God was doing somewhere across the globe.
My job is like a constant Missions Conference high. I don't mean that it's always fun, always easy, or always some sort of spiritual experience. But I get to see glimpses of what God is doing across the globe every day. Literally. Every day.
Today, for example. Let me think of the tiny "touches" that I had with people in one very average day.
Today I was in touch with a leader from our work in Bangladesh, a friend from last year's training camp now living in Hawaii, the President of Wycliffe USA, the Director of Missions at a large church in Southern California, and countless other friends and connections with hundreds of years of combined missions "field" experience.
Pretty cool.
So I guess the "traveling" part of our blog name is now morphing from our family's travels to the travels of all of these "touches" we have here at this hub of missions work. If you ever come to Orlando to visit us, you could end up with a Missions Conference high, too! We truly mean it when we say, "if you're ever in Orlando, you have a place to stay"!
Hope to see you soon! We'll try to post more pictures next time...pray that our Mac miraculously recovers soon!
Thanks for reading...
Trevor
